Domain Availability API — check whether a domain name is free to register. Answered from DNS by default, which is fast and accurate for the vast majority of names; pass source = whois for a registry-authoritative answer when you need certainty before a purchase flow. Accepts the domain with or without a scheme or www. prefix. Returns a single boolean — is_available — so it drops straight into a registration form or a bulk name-search tool. It is a v2 API, an improvement on the v1 API.

Parameter Type Required Description
domain_name string Yes Domain name to check, e.g. example.com. A scheme, path or www. prefix is stripped automatically. Max 253 characters.
source string No Lookup source: "dns" (default, fast) or "whois" (registry-authoritative, slower).
